Wisdom From The Widowed
In 2006, within months of my husband's sudden passing I met another young widow Aisling, and we formed a strong bond while trying to navigate a strange, unfamiliar new world—one of profound grief, bewilderment, and isolation that comes with losing your life partner far too young. We used to say that we wished there was a guidebook for people in our situation. And now it's here, Wisdom from the Widowed.
Why We Wrote This Book
Drawing from eighteen years of both personal experience and professional insight as qualified counsellors, we've created the guidebook we wish we'd had back then. This isn't another book about grief in general—it's specifically for those who've lost a spouse or partner, addressing the unique complexities that come with this particular loss.
Through our work with support groups, individual counselling, and online communities, we've had the privilege of walking alongside hundreds of widows and widowers aged 25-55. Their stories, combined with our own journey from the depths of despair to rebuilding meaningful lives, form the heart of this book.
What You’ll Find Inside
Wisdom From the Widowed offers practical guidance for every stage of the grief journey—from the shock of early loss through to questions about dating again. It's designed to be your companion whenever you need it, addressing everything from the practicalities of daily life to the deeper questions of identity, purpose, and hope.
This isn't about "moving on" or following someone else's timeline. It's about moving forward—at your own pace, with compassion for yourself, and with the understanding that whilst this isn't the path you chose, you don't have to walk it alone.
About The Authors
As experienced grief counsellors and advocates who have transformed their own profound loss into a mission of healing, Aisling and Maria are available to speak at conferences, workshops, and inspirational events. They share their expertise and powerful message of hope with audiences seeking to understand grief, support the bereaved, or find their own path through loss.
In addition to keynote presentations, Aisling and Maria offer tailored workshops, panel appearances, and group programs for a range of contexts — including healthcare and counselling settings, corporate organisations, community events, and bereavement support networks. Drawing on both professional training and deeply personal experience, their presentations explore themes of loss, identity, resilience, and the transformative potential of grief — including the very real and often unspoken journey of rebuilding life after loss. They speak to what it means to rediscover yourself, reimagine your future, and find solid ground again when everything you knew has changed. Audiences leave with genuine understanding, practical frameworks, and a renewed sense of possibility.
